High-temperature inactivation of passive potassium transport in electrically non-excitable cells.

چکیده
High-temperature inactivation of passive potassium transport is demonstrated for mouse cell cultures and discussed in analogy to recent results on model systems from phospholipid/cholesterol doted with channel-forming antibiotics.

Temperature Adaptation of Active Sodium-Potassium Transport and of Passive Permeability in Erythrocytes of Ground Squirrels
Unidirectional active and passive fluxes of (42)K and (24)Na were measured in red blood cells of ground squirrels (hibernators) and guinea pigs (nonhibernators). As temperature is lowered, "active" (ouabain-sensitive) K influx and Na efflux were more greatly diminished in guinea pig cells than in those of ground squirrels. The fraction of total K influx which is ouabain sensitive in red blood c...
متن کاملGenes for neuronal properties expressed in neuroblastoma x L cell hybrids.
Neuroblastoma cells with electrically excitable membranes were fused with electrically passive L cells having a hitherto undescribed electrical marker. Hybrid cells, examined 10-40 generations after fusion, were found to be electrically excitable. The results show that at least a part of the genetic information for neuron differentiation can be functionally expressed in N x L hybrid cells. Evid...
متن کاملFirst principle study of structural and electronic transport properties for electrically doped zigzag single wall GaAs nanotubes
Emerging trend in semiconductor nanotechnology motivates to design various crystalline nanotubes. The structural and electronic transport properties of single walled zigzag Gallium Arsenide nanotubes have been investigated using Density Functional Theory (DFT) and Non-Equilibrium Green’s Function (NEGF) based First Principle formalisms. Structural stability and enhanced electronic transmission ...

متن کاملElectrical properties of an excitable epithelium
The exumbrellar epithelium of the hydromedusa, Euphysa japonica, is composed of a single layer of broad (70 micrometers), thin (1--2 micrometers) cells which are joined by gap junctions and simple appositions. Although the epithelium lacks nerves, it is excitable; electrically stimulating the epithelium initiates a propagated action potential. The average resting potential of the epithelial cel...
